The Science Festival
On Wednesday 29th of October Liz from the Science festival took us upstairs and told us we were making band rollers.
She introduced herself. After that she showed us wind-up toys. There was a penguin and a caterpillar. She also told us the instructions.
We found groups and got to a table. I had Ellie and Emilie in my group. We also had cards on the tables. One had lengths of sticks and the other had shapes of wheels. My group had the lengths of sticks and I had the small ones. The instructions were: you get the wheels and a ruler. Draw one line across the wheels and one up and down. Next you draw your own design. After that we drew little lines on the big lines. Then you got eight drawing pins and put four on the little lines and four on the other. Get four little bits of wood and stick them on each drawing pin. Next get an elastic band and slip it through the little hole in the wheel. But don’t put it all in because you’re going to put half a match stick in the loop now. After you’ve done that you keep pulling it through. When you have pulled it all you find a washer and a bead. When you’ve got that you put the washer on the elastic band. After that you put on a bead and get a lollipop stick and put it through the loop.
After we did that we went to the hall to have a race. First we had a group race. Next we had a class race! Matthew was first, Glen was second and Alina was third. It was the best thing I’d ever made! It was a great day!
