Strichen's Got Talent!! THE WINNER!!!!!!
So...the votes are in.....they have been counted and verified........so we can announce that the WINNERS of this year's 'Strichen's Got Talent' is.........

RED NOSE DAY 2013
So......as we wait for the results of Strichen's Got Talen to be verified we canupdate you onn how much the pupils, families (and the Playgroup) helped to raise for Comic Relief!
Donations for todays activities, sales of Red Noses and the 'Guess the Sweets in the Jar' (won by Ms Bray) raised a grand total of........
£331.90
Well done to everyone for raising such a great amount!
What a day at school today!
Another Friday.....another day with a theme! Today it was Red Nose Day! So everyone turned up at school in "something RED" and what a ariety we had!
Then the pupil council organised games in the hall.....with each acing a Red Nose theme! All the classes really enjoyed this!
At break time we had a "Hunt the RED NOSES" round the playground! Mrs Groves Mrs Watt hid 25 red noses round the playground and everyone set off looking for them! However, one was a lucky one and the pronto find this one would get a prize! So well done Ben who found nose number 20!!!
After lunch we were ready for the BIG EVENT!
It was time for.....drum roll......STRICHEN'S GOT TALENT,
10 acts had thrown their hats into the ring and we sat back to be entertained!
And entertained we were! Every act was excellent and they had all rehearsed a lot by the standard of the presentations!
Scott and Scott were our intrepid presenters and helped keep things flowing! Miss Clark, Mrs Mitchell and Mrs Noble were our judges!!
So we had dancers, singers, Zumba presentations and our own P7 boy band!
So...well done to all our acts!

Tree Surgeons in the Garden!
We recently had a visit from some tree surgeons after we received a letter expressing some concern about a wall and some trees in the Secret Garden.
After a visit by some guys from Landscape Services it was decided that we had to lose some of the trees as their roots were beginning to affect the wall and was becoming a health and safety hazzard! So, the three surgeons came and within a day had cleared a number of the offending trees.
We willnow be able to look at seeing what we can do with the border along the wall when we get some time. We also need to get repairs done to the greenhouse after the vandalism that took place earlier in the session.

World Book Day 2013
We had a great day on Friday celebrating World Book Day! Everyone came dressed up for the day.....from James Bond to Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.
It was also International School Meals Day and so to mark this canteens across the authority had an American themed lunch! This proved very popular and the canteen was almost as busy as Christmas lunch!
Pupils had the chance to dress up as a caharacter from a book or film, as an American or in Red, White and Bllue!
Among the activities for World Book Day were:
- Dress up Day
- P6 and P7 pupils did some paired reading with the pupils in the nursery and Pr 1/2. They really enjoyed this and the older pupils were great at reading to the younger ones who really enjoyed it. Pr 6 pupils read to the nursery pupils as they will become their 'Buddies' when they start in Primary 1 in August!
- Design a bookmark comeptition.
- Book Swap - Pupils took in books and swapped them for books taken in by the other pupils! A nice cheap way to get some new readfing materials!
- Design a book cover or book jacket for the 'new' book 'Strichen School Takes Over New York!'
And in the afternoon thew whole school met in the hall for our 'BIG READ'! Everyone, including staff, took a book along and we all spent some time together reading our books! It was a nice relaxing half hour!
Thanks to the members of the Pupil Council who helped organise the events on the day!
The Pupil COuncil will be busy again this week preparing for 'Comic Relief Day' on Friday!!
