Well. The last few weeks have gone past in such a blur it is difficult to remember everything that has happened! But here is a brief summary of some of the things that have been going on!
Area Sports
Over the last few weeks the pupils from some of the classes have been taking part in athletics work and have been recording a series of times and distances to see how well they can do against a national scheme. Mr Witt and Mr Fyfe have told me that all the classes have done very well and have been scoring very high!
A new ‘Area Sports’ is to take place in Banff in the next two weeks. This is being held for P7 pupils and 4 boys and 4 girls from each Academy area are to represent their area at the sports. We were delighted to find out that TWO of our P7 boys have made it into the top 4 for the whole of the Mintlaw Area. They will represent Mintlaw in the sports and we hope that they will do well and have a great time. We would like to congratulate Glen Simpson and Jack Forman for achieving 2 of the top 4 spaces for P7 boys in the Mintlaw Area.
Diamond Jubilee Concerts
Over the last few weeks the children from all classes have been preparing for the two Jubilee Concerts that were held last week. The classes have all been finding out about the Royal Family and the Diamond Jubilee.
We held two concerts and around 300 people attended both performances. The concert on Wednesday night was a packed house in the Ritchie Hall and it went on a little bit longer than we had expected! However, the feedback from both concerts was very positive and we hope everyone who attended enjoyed them.
Each class had studied a different decade of the Queen’s Reign and shared some facts and music from the different periods! We even had a visit from The Queen herself and Elvis!

Buchan Heritage Festival
The Buchan Heritage Festival took place recently and pupils from Pr 6/7 entered poems into the Doric Writing competition. Because of their ages some of the pupils were in different categories. Each pupil received a certificate for taking part and we had a few pupils who got a First, Second or a Third place.
Ryan Ross and Robert Packham both won First places and received a shield last week from some of the organisers to keep for a year until the next festival. It is great to see pupils from Strichen doing well in this event – especially as it takes place in Strichen.
SSA Jubilee Tea
The SSA are holding a Jubilee Tea on Thursday 7th June from 3.15 – 5.00pm to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. There will be a special Jubilee tea and a range of out door activities to take part in including an interhouse football event.
We hope that you will be able to come along and join us at this event.
Diamond Jubilee Medals
The SSA kindly provided funds to the school to purchase special commemorative medals for each of the pupils in the school. These medals come in a display box and have ‘Strichen School 2012’ engraved on a plate on the box. The children were delighted to receive these and we hope that they will look after them and keep them for many years to come. We hope that they will look at them from time to time many years from now and it will help remind them of the Jubilee and the fact the celebrated it by putting on concerts for the local community.
There are only 18 school days left till the summer and a lot has to be packed in to that time. We look forward to Sports Day and the Pr 6/7 Mini Olympics. The Primary 7 pupils have a three day visit to the Academy and a whole host of other events are planned! It will be another frantic end to the year!
