‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Charity
Class 3 have been very busy over the last week making plans to hold a coffee morning for parents, relatives and friends to help raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. ‘The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ took place on Friday 26th September and Class 3 joined in with the thousands of other coffee mornings arranged for that day.
They, along with their teacher Mrs Veitch, decided that this would be a great way of helping raise funds for a worthwhile cause while at the same time having some fun and learning some useful enterprising skills. They made all the arrangements for the coffee morning from going to the local shop to buy all the things they would need, designing and printing tickets and organising a wide range of activities for the visitors to do when they were in school having their coffee.
The children worked hard all morning and were amazed when over 60 people turned up for their coffee. The visitors had time to chat, look at the children’s work on the walls, see photos of the children at work, visit the school eco garden and even play on the Nintendo Wii!! The visitors also had the opportunity to buy a word search produced by one of the pupils, play ‘Play your cards right’ and guess how many coffee beans were in a jar!
A great time was had by all and the pupils could not believe it when they counted up the money afterwards and discovered they had made £400.
Class 3 deserve a lot of credit for running such a well organised event and for raising so much money. We would like to thank all the visitors who were able to come along and help make this such a great event.
This following report was written by some of the pupils after the coffee morning.
‘On Friday 26th September Class 3 had a ‘Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning’ in our class. Our families were invited and many came along to join us. We had some games for them to try. These were ‘Pick a Square’, ‘Guess the number of coffee beans in the jar’ and ‘Play your cards right’. We also got to play on the Nintendo Wii and it was great. The parents all had fun as well. Rhia, Steven and Callum were in charge of guessing the number of beans in the jar. Craig and Beth were in charge of ‘Pick a Square’. Daniel, Glen, Michael and Ryan ran the ‘Play your cards right’. Lucy sold copies of the word search she made at home. The guides were Kelsie, Angus, Jack and Alexa. We all helped to count the money and the coffee beans once everyone went. We were amazed to find out that we made £400. ‘
