Fire Officer Gary Collins paid a second visit to the school this week to teach pupils in P5 & 6 about the importance of fire safety in the home. Here is a report by two of the pupils about their visit.
On the 8th of February Gary Collins, Fire Safety Officer, came in and gave us a talk about fire safety.
Garyshowed us how quickly a fire can spread. He showed us videos about a hoax call that killed a teenaged girl. She died because her friend made a hoax call because two teen age boys made her do it by locking her in the phone box.
He went over some of the things we did in the previous lesson. He showed us another video called ‘It was just a game.’ It was about a group of friends that went on a bike ride around the country and stopped in a field for a picnic. They played a game where you had to hold a lit match until it went out. A boy called Paul dropped the match and the bale of hay went on fire. A girl named Claire got severe burns because she tried to get her bike but she tripped on a rock in the field and burned her arm.
He kept saying that as a last resort in a fire you should jump out a window because you could break your bones.
At the end he put on a funny cartoon. We really enjoyed the two sessions with Gary.
