Pupils plant Wild Flowers on 'The Formartine & Buchan Way'

A group of 15 pupils visited The Lake in Strichen on Wednesday 25th September to take part in part of the official opneing of 'The Formartine & Buchan Way. The group were met at the old railway line by rangers from the Aberdeenshire Ranger Service and Councilor Lenny Pirie and other locals who had come along to take part.

The pupils, from all stages of the school, all helped to plant some wild flowers along a stretch of the walk adjacent to Brewery Road. They all really enjoyed the activity and were told that the flowers they were planting would thrive in the woodland area and would hopefully flower in early springtime next year.

To mark the event they all received a 'goody bag' with some information about 'The Formartine and Buchan Way' which is a walking route which satretches for 53 miles!

Thery all really enjoyed the trip and they told their fellow classmates about the visit on their return.

'Strichen Walk Stars'

We want to congratulate the team of parents, pupils and friends who took part in the 'Kilt Walk' from Aberdeen to Potarch - a distance of 26 miles. Part of the sponsorship money will be donated to the school and we are delighted that they put in all that effort to raise funds for the school.

When we find out how much they raised we will share this with everyone. But in the meantime we would like to thank them and say well done!

SSA Annual General Meeting

                                              SSA AGM Thursday 26th September, 7.30pm, GP Room

The SSA will hold its AGM in the school on Thursday 26th September at 7.30pm in the GP Room. You are invited to come along to hear about the work of the SSA over the last year and to find out more about how you could help Strichen School.

Refreshments will be provided also during the evening.

A guest speaker has been invited along to do a short presentation on 'Internet and Online Safety'.

PC John Pirie, Schools Liaison Officer, will talk about the very important subject of using the internet safely and what parents should be aware of with regard to their children using this valuable tool safely and responsibly. His presentation will be very interesting and will also give you the opportuntiy to ask any questions with regard to online safety.

There will also be a short presentation about the new assessment tools that are being used by the local authority to help teachers plan for your child's progress through school.

So why not come along and join us on the evening. We woul dbe delighted to see you.

Kilt Walk - Strichen School Team

A group of parents and frineds of Strichen School are taking part in 'The Kilt Walk' this weekend to riase funds for charity. 'The Strichen Walk Stars' wil be splitting the money they raise with the nominated charities of the walk organisers and Strichen School. The attached newsletter gives a little more information about the event.

If you would like to make a donation towards the team's total please hand it in to the school office before Friday.

School Assembly

We have an assembly most weeks of the year. These are taken by different people from time to time. Assemblies can be taken by Mr Jenkins, a different class or by special visitors to school. We are lucky to have regular visits by Jamesie Strachan and the Rev. A. Fothergill. The children look forward to our assembly time and enjoy having visitors such as Jamesie or when the other classes take an assembly.

At the end of each assembly 'Head Teacher Awards' are also handed out to pupils from each class that have been nominated by their teacher, or sometimes class mates, for recognition of good work, working hard or helping others.

Here you can see some photos from Jamesie's assembly when he had them singing and carrying out actions to go with the song!

Primary 1 and Nursery Photos

Primary 1 pupisl and new nursery pupils have joined us for the new session. Theyare settling inwell and seem to be enjoying life at school. We hope this continues for many years to come. Look out for the P1 photo in the Evening Express sometime in September.
