Friday dawned and it was a struggle to get up – but we knew we had to be up early so we could get packed up and be out of our rooms before our final activity of the week. The children in most rooms were difficult to rouse but once up they were soon into action! The morning was very bright and we made our way down the steps for what we thought was the last time. Breakfast followed the normal pattern with children having breakfast, making their sandwiches and someone uploading the blog and photos from Thursday. A few of the instructors were there having their breakfast and making their lunch also.
Today’s activity was called ‘The Great Egg Race’. It was going to take place in the hall at the accommodation and it was a shame that it was such a nice morning to be inside. The instructors came and set up the activity in the hall. They had a collection of junk, bits and bobs and a huge pile of ‘Bank of Insh’ money. The children sorted themselves into small groups and they were set the challenge of constructing a ‘contraption’ that would allow a hard boiled egg to travel the greatest distance across the floor of the hall. The children were given a sum of money each and the junk and bits and bobs were auctioned off to the highest bid fro the groups. The items they felt would be most useful in their task went for a higher sum than some of the more mundane items such as newspaper, elastic bands or plastic cups! The children then had a set time to construct their device to propel the egg the greatest distance. The instructors helped and after their time was up each team had the opportunity to come up and test out their idea. This was repeated three times and soon they had discovered the group with the best idea!
After tidying up from this activity it was time for lunch as the bus would arrive soon. As it was so nice we decided to go down the steps one more time to the beach for our lunch and to let the children loose in the adventure playground. We moved all the cases over to where the bus was now parked and the driver would collect us from the boathouse at 12.30pm.
The children had great fun in the park and then we went to the beach to have our lunch. The bus arrived and sadly they all climbed aboard ready for the journey home. Some of the children even asked if we had to go home! Even the staff felt the same as the week had been so good.
So, the children had walked, sailed, kayaked, canoed, skied, snow boarded, cycled, problem solved, arched, played games and danced at the disco and had had GREAT FUN!
