Congratulations to TEAM STRICHEN!
Team Strichen: Buchan Sports Triumph!
Winners for a THIRD Year!
On Tuesday 31 pupils from Strichen School set off to Longside School to take part in the annual ‘Buchan Sports’ – an interschool sports event between all the primary schools in the Mintlaw cluster. The children were all very enthusiastic as the school had won the event for the previous two years…..and so they were hoping that luck might be on their side in an attempt to make it three in a row!
The weather was dull, drizzly and dreich…..but that did not dampen their spirits at all. In fact they all tried extremely hard and put 100% into their efforts. And their efforts certainly paid off….as they did indeed manage to retain the trophy by beating a very competitive Mintlaw team!
We would like to congratulate the children on their efforts…..they were so enthusiastic and had been talking about this for some time and did a great job in representing the school. To win this event three times in a row is a great achievement and we now look forward to finding out how many of the pupils will be invited to represent the Mintlaw Cluster team in the North Area Sports in June.
Great work TEAM STRICHEN!

P1/2 Having fun building Robots
As part of their work on ‘Toys’ the children were given the challenge to work with a partner to design and build a ‘junk’ model Robot.
They were set three criteria:
The children were very busy and set to work in their pairs. Firstly they drew a picture on their own of what they wanted the robot to look like. They learned to put labels on their picture to make it a diagram. Then they shared what they had designed and used the best ideas from each to design a ‘super’ robot.
They set to work on building their robots. They selected the materials they needed and began sticking. It was a tricky job deciding whether to use sellotape, masking tape, double sided tape, glue or a paper fastener. The children were very busy and there was lots of discussion as they built. Once the glue was dry they set to work on choosing which colours they would use and on painting. They added the final touches before putting their work on display.
The children enjoyed showing their work to the class and we checked that the three criteria had been met. We had lots of fun!

Well..it is amazing to think we are into Term 4 of this session already. We hope to be posting more regularly this term to the blog as we have not managed to put up too many posts of late!
Our P7 pupils are off on Tuesday to Loch Insh and so we will be updating the blog every day with news and pictures of the trip.
At the end of last term we celebrated World Book Day and the Nursery went to the Fire Station in Peterhead. The two officers gave the children a great visit...including a run in the Fire Engine with the lights and sirens going. Mrs Dunbar's class had a visit from a Piper, Andrew Buchan, during the last week of term and he demonstrated the various bag pipes that he had and played some tunes for them. He was excellent and answered all the children's questions.
The piper, Andrew Buchan, plays for P2/3 and P3/4/5.
Mr Jenkins....getting to do what all boys want to do...be a Fireman!
